The world around us seems to be hell-bent on treating Halloween as a “holiday” - which it isn’t. These same folks seem also to have the tendency to move straight from Halloween to Christmas, effectively bypassing one of our nation’s most traditional “holidays” Thanksgiving.

Maintaining and attitude of gratitude with an empty seat at the table

Fitzgibbon Hospital Thanksgiving is one of the most frequently celebrated holidays in the United States, with an estimated $949 million being spent on turkeys alone, not to mention all of the other side items. And the extra day or days off often lead to higher travelling volumes on the nation’s highways. But if you have experienced the death of a loved one this year, that empty seat at the table may make it very difficult to think about what you’re thankful for. How can you truly be thankful when your loved one is no longer here?

Community Thanksgiving Service

The Marshall Ministerial Alliance will sponsor the annual Marshall Community Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday night, Nov. 21, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Yerby and Lincoln streets. The service will begin at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
