MHS Class of ’63 enjoys reunion

The Marshall High School Class of 1963 got together for their 60th reunion on Saturday, Sept. 9. They met at noon at Stonehedge for a luncheon and visiting to catch up with happenings during the past five years. The Jackson Event Center was the next stop at 5:30 p.m. Social time was filled with more meeting and greeting, followed by a photo session. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all. During the evening, the visiting, laughter and more photos continued, and there were door prizes. Tom Tweito won a gift certificate to a Dairy Queen of his choice. David McCorkle won the price of his evening meal. Norma Jean Ferguson won a China berry set donated by Howard Bell (as pictured).

Women Encouraged to Schedule Regular Mammograms

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For all the focus and education regarding research, detection and treatment options for breast cancer, there are still many women in our area who have yet to make their appointment to receive a 3D Mammogram as a recommended by health experts. This critical breast cancer screening method, available at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, is recommended to begin as early as age 35 for those with a family history and other risk factors.

The Daughters of Isabella, Marshall Circle 535, meeting was held Sept. 13, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Regent Anne Thorp called the meeting to order. Chancellor Jean Lubich led the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Marshall Writers’ Guild member As a result of my being hearing impaired, my children learned quite early they would accomplish nothing if they stayed in bed and cried they were sick. They got up and came to me. When they were teenagers, we acquired a female dog who shortly presented us with a litter of puppies. We kept one of the puppies, He soon learned I could not hear; therefore, he barked when someone came to the door or at any unusual sound. He bonded just with me. After my children were no longer living at home and my hearing had gotten worse, I depended on him more and more. He lived to be quite old, because he had the best of care. When he suffered a “stroke,” he was put to sleep. I was lost. The year was 1991.

Capitol Report

State Representative, 51st District Harvest time and homecomings. A couple of my favorite memories from high school football are the big homecoming football games and seeing all the combines running in the field on the way to the games. Most times attendance would double by halftime, because the farmers would shut their machines down and come check out the “Friday Night Lights.” We are back in that season right now with nearly every school’s homecoming having passed or coming up. If you know a high school athlete, wish them luck.
