Men’s Health Week Spotlights Major Problem for Families

June 12-16 is designated as National Men’s Health Week, the creation of which was signed into law on May 31, 1994 by then President Bill Clinton. The statistics are telling, as women are 100% more likely than men to visit their doctor for annual exams and preventive services, according the National Institutes of Health. Additionally, one in two men will be diagnosed with cancer sometime in their lifetime, compared with one in three women.

Truth of love: Not Luck

Someone dear to me shared on FB luck statements to obtain money with photos of cash. That grieved me. We are not to speak superstitious words and believe in luck for money. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which, while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10) The enticement of money being the motivating factor for these blurbs about luck is wrong thinking. Luck connected to our finances causes us to forget that we are to look to the Lord for all things. If not, we take on a wrong mindset equating money with luck. Luck then becomes a false God. Luck is not to be on the alter of our hearts; that is idolatry.

The Marshall Kiwanis Club held its regular meeting at noon Tuesday, June 6, at Montague’s. Keith Vessell offered the invocation, and former club president Pam LaFrenz led the Pledge of Allegiance and called the meeting to order with 22 members in attendance.
