Setting things straight

Our nation just finished celebrating Memorial Day. For many people, that means yet another three-day weekend. And we all know just how much we love those three-day weekends. Many go to the lake or go on a camping trip. Others travel to their favorite fun spots for short mini-vacations. In fact, the government has estimated that travel over Memorial Day weekend 2023 neared or surpassed travel before the COVID pandemic hit.

Confederate Memorial Day to be recognized June 3 in Higginsville

The Confederate Memorial Friends Association, along with the Confederate State Historic Site in Higginsville, Mo., is sponsoring the annual Confederate Memorial Day event on Saturday, June 3. The Chapel will be open at 10 a.m. with music by Hank Roberts. The service will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the procession of the Color Guard into the cemetery. At the close of the program, flowers are placed by many of the veteren’s descendants on their ancestors’ graves. Group singing ends the afternoon. The public is invited to come out to beautiful Confederate Park and share in this special day to honor and remember Missouri’s Confederate veterans.

GILL MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH As we travel the road of life, we come across many experiences, struggles, and challenges of all kinds. We will come to parts of the road that are straight and smooth, areas where it is rough and unleveled, pot holes, curves, up hills, down hills, forks in the road, and even dead ends. From the time we are born, we have struggles of all kinds. As we get older we also face all kinds of challenges, from schools to jobs to marriage and raising a family. It’s a never- ending road that we are traveling. Some days are good, and some are bad.
