It was a sweep of Central Activities Conference games at Madison for the Slater basketball teams Friday. The Lady Wildcats ended a three-game slide with a 4722 win in the opener; and the Slater boys evened their conference and overall marks (33 and 9-9) with a 64-32 win in the nightcap.

In a nip-and-tuck game,the state-ranked Santa Fe Lady Chiefs came up with the key plays down the stretch and defeated a pesky Saint Paul Lady Saints team 44-38 Friday. The win was the eighth straight for Tony Willis’ ball club, which improved to 13-1.
A slow start doomed the Sweet Springs Greyhounds in their I-70 Conference matchup at home versus Lone Jack Friday. The Mules raced to an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes and went on to claim a 71-50 victory.

Diane Schlesselman’s Marshall Lady Owls’ basketball team played better as the week went on at the Macon Shootout last week. However, the Lady Owls came up on the short end of 66-47 and 48-43 decisions versus Milan and Macon Thursday and Saturday.
On a night when points were hard to come by, the Marshall Owls were able to hit a couple of key shots down the stretch and defeat Milan 41-40 in the second game of their set at the Macon Shootout Thursday. “It was good to get one that we weren’t totally expected to win,” Marshall head coach Lane Titus said.
This past weekend a press release was shared by Marshall Public Schools Superintendent Caleb Petet. In the press release, the following below was stated: On Sunday morning, Jan. 21, at 12:28 a.m. one of the Marshall Public Schools fifth grade trail‐ers, which houses two classrooms on the edge of Vest Street next to Bueker Middle School, was damaged in a single‐vehicle incident. A reck‐less driver’s vehicle drove completely through the wooden handicap ramps of one of the fifth grade trail‐ers before coming to rest in a neighboring yard on Odell Avenue. Police were on the scene immediately.
