The Marshall Writ‐ers’ Guild met on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Marshall Public Li‐brary. Present: Vice‐ President Sharon Eiker‐Dyer, Holly Fors‐man, Sean Rea, Treas‐urer Carole Schaefer, Wicky Sleight, Virginia Sprigg, Secretary Sid‐ney Sullivan, Mary Williams, and guest James Beeler. Absent: Melanie Dees Campbell, Rayvin Freeman, Pat Hammer, Eveleth Hill, Vince Lutterbie, Ed and Authorene Phillips, President Ed Richards, and Carol Raynor.
Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Malta Bend School, and Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 held their first blood drive for 2023 on Wednesday, Jan. 18. A total of 47 donors were able to donate 48 units of blood, the highest number ever at the Malta Bend blood drives. This resulted from 38 whole blood units and 10 ALYX (double red blood cell) units.
The LaCoMo East Charter of Little League International Volunteer Board of Directors, serving the communities within the combined high school district boundaries of Concordia R-II, Marshall, Malta Bend R-V, Pettis County R-V, Santa Fe R-X, Slater and Sweet Springs RVII invites parents and willing volunteers to the annual open meeting. A press release says the meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Room 203 of the Concordia Community Center at 802 S. Gordon St.
After spending nearly three weeks on the road, the Marshall Lady Owls returned home to play Osage Tuesday. Marshall started out OK, but the Lady Indians used several lengthy scoring runs to build a big lead and coast to a 61-38 win.

Although the seventh-seeded Marshall Owls blew all of a 10-point halftime lead, Lane Titus’ ball club made a couple of key plays down the stretch and beat the Linn Wildcats 4847 in the consolation semifinal at the Harrisburg Tournament Thursday.
