Several Marshall Public Library board members have been finalizing a job description and other documents as the board prepares to seek another library director. According to the director’s report for the board meeting Dec. 13, a call for resumes had been posted to the library’s Facebook page and website in addition to The Marshall Democrat-News.
JEFFERSON CITY — State Fire Marshal Tim Bean is urging Missourians to be extra cautious heating their homes as the most frigid temperatures of the season push into the state. Each year, space heaters account for about one-third of home heating fires and 80 percent of heating fire deaths. Space heaters are the leading cause of home fires in the months of December, January and February, according to the National Fire Protections Association.
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame has announced its latest induction class, and selected are long-time former Head Coach of the men’s wrestling program, and current Missouri Valley College Athletic Director Mike Machholz, along with the men’s wrestling teams from 1996-2005. Machholz was selected for induction after his 30 years of work building and leading the men’s wrestling program at Missouri Valley.
The Sweet Springs basketball teams suffered losses at the W-K Shootout in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Building at State Fair Community College in Sedalia Saturday.
Competition was very stiff at the Battle on the Katy Trail wrestling tournament in Sedalia Saturday. In the end, the Marshall Owls emerged with three wrestlers with .500 or better records.
The No. 18 Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team traveled to Seward, Neb., to compete at the Concordia (Neb.) Bulldog Duals, Saturday. The Vikings finished with a 3-1 record on the day, led by a 3-0 effort from No. 7 Senior Joshua Isaac (Woodbridge, Va.) at 285 pounds.
