Coming together for the harvest

The Family Life Center at First Baptist Church looked more like a manufacturing plant this week as hundreds of volunteers became book makers. First Baptist Church commissioned volunteers from area churches as they were given a mission of sending Bibles to the Philippines.

MVC Division of Fine Arts presents fall production

MARSHALL (Oct. 25, 2022) — The Missouri Valley College Division of Fine Arts presents the MVC Theatre Ensemble’s production of “30 Neo-Futurist Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, 30 Plays in 60 Minutes,” by Greg Allen, Nov. 3-5 at 7:30 p.m., nightly in the Eckilson- Mabee Theatre. This fast-paced evening of theater is based on the Neo-futurist aesthetic which is an evolving, multi-faceted theatrical aesthetic built on a belief in truthful, direct communication between the performer and the audience. This movement was spearheaded by Greg Allen at the Chicago-based Neofuturist Theater where, “Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind,” has been performed since 1988.

Marshall teachers receive mini Foundation grants

Marshall Public Education Foundation Inc. recently awarded three $500 Mini Grants to local teachers. The grants went to a teacher from each division — elementary, middle school, and high school. Winners were as follows: Elementary — Kim Alberson and Spainhower Primary First Grade Teachers — Decodable Readers. These decodable books align to the science of reading, which is an evidence- based approach to literacy. They will enable readers to improve their reading skills by following a carefully sequenced progression of words that are consistent with the phonics skill currently taught.
