On Aug. 8, the American Legion Post No. 191 installed officers for next year. Six offices were present for the ceremony. The installing officer was Jim Heard from American Legion Post 78 in Slater. The installed officers are: Commander, Robin Wandell; Adjutant, Sharea Kelly; Finance, Dan Vermillion; Historian, Mike Zeka; Chaplain, David Van Horn; and Service Officer, Richard Pemberton. Vice Commander Leo Fuemmeler and Memorials Officer James Brown were not present due to illness, and Sergeant- at-Arms Kile Guthrey was not able to attend. These three officers will be installed at the next Post meeting.

Some injuries were reported after three vehicles crashed on U.S. Highway 65 in Marshall Monday morning, Aug. 29. The crash occurred between Wal-Mart Drive and Vest Street. According to a Marshall Police Department report, two of the drivers, Amanda Swift and Diane Raglin, reported a third vehicle had crossed the center line, striking both of their vehicles. Raglin’s vehicle then went off the roadway. The driver of the third vehicle, Anthony Deen, reportedly stated he was traveling south on Highway 65 and the next thing he remembered was striking the vehicles.
