15th Annual Pink Out Events Raise Awareness of Cancer Symptoms

While the impending fall brings thoughts of orange, red and bronze as the leaves begin to change, it also brings thoughts of the color pink, which is synonymous with Breast Cancer Awareness activities. Many businesses, schools and healthcare organizations are gearing up for events that focus on raising breast cancer awareness, detection, prevention and treatment. Although October continues to be the primary month of focus regarding breast and other cancers, the event has drawn so much participation that many activities are beginning earlier, in the month of September. “Pink Out” in Marshall is a collection of activities that community organizations will spearhead. These include both educational events and fundraising activities. This year marks the 15th year of the area’s annual Pink Out campaign. “Our annual Pink Out campaign is something we all look forward to as we recognize those who have survived, remember those who fought and bring awareness to cancer treatment options located right here in our community,” said Andrea Barr, Foundation Director for Fitzgibbon Hospital. “It also gives us an opportunity to raise money to continue to provide the greatest access to cancer care at the Fitzgibbon Community Cancer Center.” Activities and events to raise awareness in the fight against breast and other cancers begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, with the “Tuff Enuf to Wear Pink” Missouri Valley Rodeo Stampede at the Saline County Fairgrounds. Slater High School will host its Pink Out softball game versus Carrollton at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3. Their Pink Out football game will be vs Wellington and is planned for 7 p.m. versus Wellington on Friday, Oct. 14. Marshall High School students and staff get into the act on Tuesday, Oct. 11, for the annual Powder Puff football game. The staff from Marshall High School will square off against the staff from Fitzgibbon Hospital at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Marshall High School stadium. The winning tea

That changes everything!

I keep hearing people talk about all the changes going on in the world today. The prices of food are going up. In some places, the availability of food and other supplies is falling short. The prices of automobile fuel and heating fuel and diesel fuel all are at very high levels. And, once again, we are hearing of wars and possible wars, and possibly even a nuclear exchange. Yep - there definitely are changes going on.
