Cameron Lee Patton, 62, of Marshall, Mo., died Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo. Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery in Winfield, Kan.

Municipal Band tunes up for start of new season

Thursday evening, June 2, the Marshall Municipal Band will begin their second century of music making. All summer long, the band performs weekly, free concerts on the east lawn of the Saline County Courthouse. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. While there is bench seating available, attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chair and enjoy the music making on the picturesque Marshall Square.

‘Sacrifice’ key topic of Memorial Day ceremony in Marshall

“More than 1,275,000 Americans have died in war and conflicts since the Revolutionary War began in 1775,” Army Capt. Sgt. Maj. Larry Godsey stated during his speech on Memorial Day. “We will shed tears and share fond memories of those who have gone before us. But why must there be sacrifice? Why is this a consequence inflicted upon those who serve and those who love them? The answer is simple, but harsh. Liberty is not freely gained or preserved. It must be continually safeguarded.”
