Jeannie Donnell Horton, 53, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Marshall, left her battle with NeuroEndocrine Tumor cancer to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Celebration of Life Services were held at 11 a.m.
Kathryn Sue “Kitty Sue” Castle, 85, of rural Marshall, Mo., died Monday, May 30, 2022, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
During a regular Slater School District Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 24, members of the board heard end-of-year reports. For the Learning Loss Tutoring Report, it was noted 78 students attended at least one of the three tutoring ses sions held this year.
Thursday evening, June 2, the Marshall Municipal Band will begin their second century of music making. All summer long, the band performs weekly, free concerts on the east lawn of the Saline County Courthouse. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. While there is bench seating available, attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chair and enjoy the music making on the picturesque Marshall Square.

Larry Godsey stated during his speech on Memorial Day. “We will shed tears and share fond memories of those who have gone before us. But why must there be sacrifice? Why is this a consequence inflicted upon those who serve and those who love them? The answer is simple, but harsh. Liberty is not freely gained or preserved. It must be continually safeguarded.”
