Run for the Wall riders pass through Saline County

Hundreds of motorcycles traveled through Saline County Monday afternoon, May 23, as they participated in Run for the Wall – a cross-country motorcycle run that began May 18. Riders begin in California and travel to Washington, D.C., in an effort to promote healing among veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world. The riders’ destination in D.C. is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Riders now also travel from there to the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial in Marseilles, Ill., in “the hope they can return home to a new beginning.” There are now four routes from which riders can choose, many participants jumping onto the route from their home state and traveling from there. It is estimated 1,800 people participate each year. Contributed image
