According to a report from the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a male subject — identified as Gary Fletcher — missing from his home in Waverly on Monday, May 23.
The Slater School District held May graduation ceremonies for both the preschool and eighth grade. For the eighth-grade graduation, Emily Anderson won the Daughters of the American Youth Citizenship Award. Ben Gochenour, Kendall Guthrie and Robert James Pannell IV won the American Legion Award.
On March 26, SCCC DECA and HOSA worked to raise $450, which was donated to Children’s Mercy Hospital as their community service activity for the month. With the help of the com munity, both organizations were able to help provide funds to be given to parents who need help with the expense of traveling back and forth from the hospital.
The Sweet Springs Ambulance District Board of Directors talked about the future of the former I-70 Hospital building during a meeting held Wednesday, May 18. Following the call or order, board members stated they intended to “deviate from their current agenda” to focus on how to proceed following the resignation of two board members, including Board President Denis Dohrman who resigned last week.

Beverly Winona (Nixon) Kelliker, 93, of Brunswick, Mo., passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, Mo. Beverly was born on May 18, 1928, in Brunswick, the daughter of John Henry and Winona (Sowers) Nixon.

Hundreds of motorcycles traveled through Saline County Monday afternoon, May 23, as they participated in Run for the Wall – a cross-country motorcycle run that began May 18. Riders begin in California and travel to Washington, D.C., in an effort to promote healing among veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world. The riders’ destination in D.C. is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Riders now also travel from there to the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial in Marseilles, Ill., in “the hope they can return home to a new beginning.” There are now four routes from which riders can choose, many participants jumping onto the route from their home state and traveling from there.
