David Lakenburger, 87, of Marshall, Mo., died Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2022, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church, Marshall Community Food Pantry, or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born Jan. 27, 1935, in Germantown, Ill., he was the son of the late Alphonse Lakenburger and Cecelia Gerling Lakenburger. David graduated from Mercy Academy in 1953 and then joined the United States Army. Following his discharge from the Army he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. On Sept. 9, 1961, he married Sara Keller, who survives of the home. David worked as an accountant most of his life, working for several CPA firms starting with John Adams and retiring from Wilson-Toellner in Marshall. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 558, and volunteered at the Marshall Community Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.
In addition to his wife, Sara, he is survived by four children, Sandra Lakenburger (David Carlson) of Raymore, Gary Lakenburger of Tetonia, Idaho, Susan Conaway (Ronald) of Marshall, and Glenn Lakenburger (Shelly) of Smithville; five grandchildren, Zachary Bishop (Rachel), Kaleb Bishop, Paige Lakenburger, Jacob Lakenburger, and Addison Lakenburger; one sister, Joann Schupp (Don) of Boonville; as well as nephews and nieces.
David was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tom Lakenburger.
