Crystal Ruth Duncan, 78, of Slater, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Slater City Cemetery, with the Rev. Cliff Cato officiating. Pallbearers will be Mark Pittman, Bill Lewellen, Kyle Lewellen, and Billy Joe Lewellen. Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.

Born Dec. 28, 1942, north of Slater, she was the daughter of the late Charles Otto Blum and Ila Sands Blum. On Aug. 11, 1962, in Marshall, she married David L. Duncan, and he survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald Dwayne Duncan and his wife, Teresa, of Perry, Kan., and Daniel Dexter Duncan of Slater; four grandchildren, Tyler, Daniel, Aubrey and Kyle; and a sister, Bettye Pittman of Slater. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Hager.

Mrs. Duncan was a 1961 graduate of Slater High School. She began her career in the Warsaw School System where she was a second-grade teacher's assistant. She later was the Slater High School secretary and was a teacherís assistant at the Slater Head Start Center. She

later worked as a Social Service designee, earning her Child Development associateís degree as a teacher. She went on to become the activities director at Big Bend Retreat, earning her Activity Director Coordinator degree, her National Activity Director Coordinator and Social Services degree, all while working on receiving her ministerís license. She ministered for many years with the Bethel Evangelistic Association. She retired from GE Energy in Slater. She found time to volunteer at Big Bend Retreat, Slater Ministerial Alliance, AARP, Community Church Women, taking pictures for Slater Main Street News, coordinating many Slater Singspirations, and coordinating many blood drives. David said she was the most organized person he had ever seen.
