Gene Alan McFadden of Waverly, Mo., was born in Marshall on Aug. 19, 1928, to Schley and Fern Fletcher McFadden. Gene returned to the community he grew up in as a physician where a few of his achievements included: Starting the first Mental Health Association for Johnson and Lafayette counties; serving as medical director in multiple nursing homes in Lafayette, Ray and Carroll counties; receiving appreciation from the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians for 25 years of service in 1989; and receiving Life Care Appreciation for 10 years as medical director. When not contributing to the community, Gene enjoyed traveling with his wife, watching the sun set, story telling, dancing, summer family vacations on Kiawah Island, and time on the farm which, over the years, consisted of sheep, cows, horses, ostrich and chickens.
