Boys' Basketball: Grain Valley 66, Marshall 24
GRAIN VALLEY -- Marshall Tournament champion Grain Valley disposed of the Marshall boys' basketball team, 66-24, in the first round of the Sonic Showdown on its home court Tuesday.
The Eagles beat the Owls by 27 points in the first week of December, and the rematch was even more lop-sided. Grain Valley held the Owls to 12 first-half points to build a commanding 30-point cushion.
Senior Josh Kilpatrick hit four three-pointers on his way to 22 points for the top-seeded Eagles (13-4), who will meet No. 5 Platte County -- which upset Oak Grove, 66-60 -- in Thursday's semifinal round.
Marshall was led in scoring by junior reserve Caden Kraft with eight points. The Owls (2-9) will try to end a six-game losing streak against Oak Grove in the consolation semifinals Thursday.
