Lady Vikings rally to win opener
WICHITA, Kan. -- The Missouri Valley College women's basketball team got its season off to a rollicking start Friday with a come-from-behind 63-60 non-conference victory at Friends (Kan.).
The Lady Vikings trailed by 12 points midway through third quarter before clawing their way back into contention, back-to-back three pointers by junior transfers Mikayla Homola and Ariel Miller closing the margin to four points before the end of the period.
Valley took the lead for the first time with a pair of free throws by junior Shanelle Talley with 3:51 remaining. Tolley made two more charity shots for a three-point lead with 1:03 to go and three attempts outside the arc missed for the Lady Falcons down the stretch.
The Lady Vikings held Friends (0-1) to 24.2-percent shooting from the field during the second half, including one of 12 from three-point range.
Homola had 17 points and Tolley 11 for Valley, with senior Sierra Adams contributing eight points, five assists and five steals. The Lady Vikings (1-0) travel to St. Louis on Saturday for a tilt against Harris-Stowe State.
