Jo was born on June 20, 1938, in Benton County, to Elery Thomas Walker and Dessie Mae Landreth Walker. On Sept. 25, 1954, she married the love of her life, James Edward Nichols, and began a new chapter in her life story. Jo’s compassion led to a career in nursing, working her entire life in the Marshall area hospital, nursing homes and the Marshall Habilitation Center. She is remembered by many for her kind, caring and patient ministering to those sick or in pain. Jo never had a harsh word for anyone, choosing to smile and assist. Her unwavering faith in God was evident in her love for her church, the United Pentecostal Church of Marshall. Jo was a master seamstress and quilter, happily sharing her creations with friends and family.
Jo is survived by her husband of 64 years, James; daughters, Pamela and Cynthia; grandchildren, Mike, Keith, Angela and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Abby, Basia, John Wayne, Gabriel, Sugar and Colton; a brother, Robert “Bob” Walker; and several nieces and nephews.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beth Samuels; and a brother, Harrison Walker.
