Darlene Staton, 87, of Slater, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at the Big Bend Retreat.
Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the Slater United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pam Sebastian officiating. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of the services at the church. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Nov. 9, 1930, in Dean Lake, she was the daughter of the late Orval and Beulah Schierenberg West. On Jan. 22, 1950, in Carrollton, she married Jimmy Joe Staton, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 2013. Mrs. Staton was a member of Chapter HQ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, 401 Couples Club, and the board of directors of Big Bend Retreat. She was the bookkeeper for Slater School District for 35 years until her retirement.
She is survived by a son, Larry Staton, of Columbia; two daughters, Cindy Brandt of Marshall, and Shelly Hufford of Lufkin, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
