4-H Sport Fishing Derby

Eighteen 4-H members participated in the Saline County 4-H Sport Fishing Derby Thursday, June 18, on private property near Marshall. During the hour-long derby the youth caught and released 75 fish ranging in species, including crappie, bass, catfish and red ear sunfish. Derby winners included: smallest fish, Brayden Medcalf; most species, Kyle Gann; largest fish, Conner Newton; and most fish, Brenden Medcalf.

4-H Sport Fishing comprises four knowledge and skills areas. Members are expected to complete activities in each of the four areas to meet the requirements of project completion. These are: angling skills, tackle craft, aquatic ecology, and

people and fish.
