Lady Chiefs rally for I-70 win

ALMA -- The Santa Fe volleyball team got an early scare Tuesday from visiting Wellington-Napoleon, but came back to remain unbeaten in I-70 Conference play, 26-28, 25-16, 25-19.

The Lady Chiefs struggled offensively in the first game, recording a .094 attack percentage, but knocked down 12 of 30 shots with only four errors in the second game. They also served up 19 aces during the contest, six by junior Kylie Limback and five more for senior Masey Peters, but were also plagued by 12 faults.

Limback led the attack with 13 kills and senior Lexi Smith added nine along with six digs. Freshman Sadie Limback put down four shots and got in on three of Santa Fe's four blocks.

The Lady Tigers (8-4-2, 1-2 I-70) got eight kills from senior Abbie Thompson, with senior Mikayla Lohsandt provided three aces and 4.5 blocks.

The Lady Chiefs (11-2-1, 5-0) play Saturday in the Warrensburg Tournament.

Orrick 2, Sweet Springs 0

ORRICK -- Sweet Springs put Orrick to the test in the first game, but then got behind early in the second Tuesday during a 26-24, 25-13 I-70 Conference road loss.

The Lady Greyhounds had serve with match point on the line at 24-23 in the first set, but couldn't close it out. The Lady Bearcats (5-6-2, 1-1 I-70) reeled off three straight points to win it, then opened the second frame with an 8-1 run.

Junior Kortnee Vaught had three of Sweet Springs' seven aces, seniors Ashleigh and Nicole Bright each had a pair of kills and senior Megan Evans provided six assists.

The Lady 'Hounds (4-8-1, 1-4) have a week off before hosting Concordia on Tuesday.

Concordia JV 2, Malta Bend 1

MALTA BEND -- Malta Bend hit well in the first game of its Tuesday home match against the Concordia junior varsity, but was eventually beaten, 16-25, 25-11, 25-20.

Senior Kayla Kiehl had five kills and junior Abby Gass came up with three blocks and a dozen service points for the Lady Tigers (3-4), who travel to Bunceton next Tuesday.
