Fourth Annual Trunk or Treat and Costume Contest
On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Sweet Springs Optimist Club will host a costume contest at the Festival Gardens stage at 3 p.m. After the contest, at approximately 4 p.m., Trunk or Treat will be held in front of local business on Miller Street.
Categories for the costume contest are separated by age: birth-2, preschool, kindergarden, first grade, second grade, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, seventh-eight grade and ninth grade to adult. Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in each category. All first place winners will compete for the grand prize. There will be cash prizes for the place winners and grand prize winner. All participants must be in costume to be a part of the contest. Everyone participating will receive a candy bar.
While the contest is going on, Miller Street between Main Street and Marshall Street will be closed so that cars may angle park. Cars will need to enter north bound and angle park on the east side of the street. Parents are asked to keep children from this area until 4:00 p.m.
Community members, businesses and residents may all participate. Participants are asked to sit by their trunk with the items they plan to hand out to the children. If businesses or community groups would like to set up games or activities on the west side of the street, please contact Dee Friel of the optimist club at 335-4174.
Local businesses are encouraged to come out and partake in the events. Citizens may decorate their trunks and dress in costumes, but neither are required to participate. There will be an award for the best decorated trunk.
Contact Dee Friel, Sue Good or Tina Reid of the optimist club with questions or if interested in participating in the trunk or treat event.
