SEDALIA -- The Sweet Springs volleyball team hasn't always competed well against Kaysinger Conference power Sacred Heart, but Thursday's contest at Sedalia was an exception.

The Lady Greyhounds put a scare into the home team before eventually falling, 25-16, 25-27, 25-19.

"We didn't give up," declared Sweet Springs head coach Kristen Niemeyer. Senior "Rebecca Tyler was a great leader, on and off the court."

Tyler provided assists on nine of the Lady 'Hounds' 15 kills -- with sophomore Megan Evans adding five sets -- and served a pair of aces. Senior Mikalah Vogelsmeier led the offense with six kills, while also coming up with five digs, and sophomore Ashley Bright added three spikes and two blocks.

The Lady Gremlins (5-0) were paced by senior Sydney Smith's 14 kills, with sophomore Becky Full pulling up 10 digs.

Sweet Springs (1-2), which got six saves from senior Kaitlyn Fuehring, plays Monday at Smithton.
