Thursday, September 1, 2011
Kathleen "KItty" Nelson, long-time music teacher in Marshall, died Aug. 8. Friends and former students will honor her memory with a concert 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Marshall.

As a piano and vocal music teacher for nearly 40 years in Marshall, the late Kitty Nelson brought music into the lives of many people, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at First Baptist Church in Marshall several of her former students and friends will honor her memory by performing a concert.

Kitty and Friends will include performances by former students Julie Lewis on piano; Ann Lewis, piano and vocals; Dan Abdon, vocals; and Meg Lawson on harp. They will be joined by Jane Huff on organ and Mary Lou Porter on flute.

The selections will be primarily sacred and classical music, according to concert coordinator Julie Lewis.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that there would be a freewill donation accepted at the concert. The Marshall Democrat-News regrets the error.
