Grant funding to benefit Marshall Tourism
In light of the upcoming Santa Fe Trail Days, the Chamber Tourism Commission requested a grant from Marshall Tourism Commission for advertisements.
The Chamber sought $1,982 for multiple advertisements including placements in newspapers, radio advertising and rack cards. The two-sided cards have been designed, dotted with photographs of local events, and highlight Santa Fe Trail Days.
Marshall Tourism Commission granted the request for funds Wednesday, July 21, as well as an additional grant of $750 for the Chamber to produce new county road maps.
The maps include 9-1-1 addresses and the Chamber's tourism website, www.visitmarshallmo.com, to promote a community calendar of events.
"Anyone can click on the 'Add Event' button on the site," Stan Moore, chairman for the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Commission, said. Those who are not members or affiliates of the Chamber can add events to the community calendar as well.
"We feel there needs to be one place where people can look up events in the area," Moore said.
Location is the key to tourism, and Moore hopes more people with scheduled events will utilize the calendar.
"Many people go through the effort of organizing an event, but don't take the time or know how to publicize it," Amy Crump, Marshall Tourism Commission member, said.
The new county maps will be available in the Chamber of Commerce office as well as in several other locations throughout town.
Marshall Tourism Commission tabled updates on delinquent taxes and policies until its next scheduled meeting, pending the appointment of two new commission members.
Amy Crump, Gracie Bouws and Shellee Peuster were present.
The next meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 18.
