MHS soccer: Marshall boys top Mexico
MEXICO -- Senior Alex Tapia scored three goals Tuesday to lead the Marshall boys' soccer team to a dominating 7-1 victory at Mexico to begin is NCMC campaign.
It took only a minute for the Owls to crack the net, sophomore Alan Magana feeding Tapia for a shot inside the box.
The count stayed at 1-0 until late in the first half, when junior Jon Najera drilled a 20-yarder and then set up senior Andy Suarez' header.
Marshall went right back to work in the second half, Tapia converted a pass from Suarez in the sixth minute. Najera provided the assist on Tapia's hat-trick tally six minutes later.
Junior Ebert Alvarez notched his first goal of the season and Suarez headed Tapia's pass into the twine.
The Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1 NCMC) prevented a shutout with junior Andrew Potucek's goal with three minutes remaining in the match. Junior Jacob Phillips had stopped the previous two shots.
Tapia and Najera each have five goals in three matches to lead the Owls (3-0, 1-0), who host Fulton on Thursday.
