OLATHE, Kan. -- Marshall native Nicki Erickson is among 16 Missouri Valley College student-athletes to be named to the NAIA Academic All-American team for spring sports.
Erickson (above) is a junior tennis player carrying a 3.82 grade-point average in pursuit of her degree in Accounting. Two other members of the Vikings' tennis team also made the squad: seniors Archie Burrows of Nassau, Bahamas, and Nick Hood of Bentonville, Ark.
The baseball and track and field programs had the most selections with five each. Three Valley baseball players boasted a 4.0 average: juniors Ricardo LeClaire of Deadwood, Ore., Joaquin Lopez of Eugene, Ore., and Jeff Syrop of Capitola, Calif. Also making the list from the diamond were senior Adam Banski of Mississaug, Ont., and junior Nate Combs of Auburn, Wash.
Leading the thinclads with a 4.0 gpa was sophomore Jaci Price of Moberly. She is joined by junior Thiago Ferreira of Sao Paulo, Brazil -- the only athletic all-American with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter race-walk -- senior Natalie Reische of Brunswick, junior April Stottlemyre of Polo and sophomore Cole Thurman of Atlanta, Mo.
