County budget hearing scheduled Wednesday
Saline County Presiding Commissioner Becky Plattner announced Tuesday, Jan. 16, that a budget hearing will be held at 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Saline County Commission chambers at the courthouse.
The requested budget amount is $2,730,586 while county officials have been told anticipated revenues will be $2,617,765.97. The difference represents about $100,000 shortfall.
The hearing is open to the public and Plattner said that she expects the commissioners to approve the budget immediately after the hearing.
In other business Tuesday, the commission recieved $2,110.17 from a continuing grant from the Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC). The funds will be used for the purchase of hazardous materials equipment and training.
Bio-fuels topic for Santa Fe Agri-Leaders meeting
Bio-fuels is the topic for the Monday, Jan. 22, Santa Fe Agri-Leaders meeting. Ron Plain, agricultural economist from the University of Missouri-Columbia, will present a program on the economic impact of bio-fuels on the ag economy and his predictions on the future of bio-fuels and where this segment of agriculture is headed.
