Valley pick up OT win over William Woods
FULTON -- Sophomore Guillen Guillen's point-blank "golden goal" six minutes into overtime Monday gave the Missouri Valley College men's soccer team a 3-2 non-conference victory at William Woods.
Guillen only had to get the ball into the net from five yards away after sophomore Thiago Caffaro made some deft moves through the middle to produce the chance. The goal completed the Vikings' comeback from a deficit with the match's third lead change.
Valley took a 1-0 lead into halftime when a pass from freshman Nikola Santrac resulted in a one-on-one opportunity for freshman Guilherme Fadlalla.
However, the Owls (4-3-2) got a pair of goals from freshman Alberto Urdin-Gonzalez within five minutes of each other midway through the second half to pull ahead.
With 23 minutes remaining in regulation time, Fadlalla returned the favor with a crossing pass to Santrac -- who knocked it in from eight yards out. Sophomore goalkeeper Christopher Eslinger made three saves the rest of the way to give the Vikings (4-2-2) a chance to win.
Valley hosts Heart of America Conference rival Baker Wednesday.
