Tuesday, September 28, 2004

SLATER -- The Slater softball team got an unexpected chance to play at home Monday due to lighting problems at Otterville.

The Lady Eagles turned the lights out anyway on any hopes for the Purple with 14 runs in the top of the first inning en route to s 26-8 non-conference victory. Sophomore Kallie Shirley had a homer and two-run single during Otterville's 13-hit rally.

The Lady Wildcats tried to battle back, freshman Erin Yager driving in a run with a double and senior Rhiannon Monnig and junior Ashley Martin following with singles to score three times. However, Slater was unable to overcome the big lead to which the Lady Eagles were staked.

Otterville (8-7) finished the contest with a six-run fifth, senior Shelby Geromini slugging a two-run double. Geromini -- who had six RBIs -- Putnam and sophomore Jessie Rugen each had four hits during the game.

Monnig and Martin each went three for three and junior Ashley Burks brought in a pair of runs with sacrifice flies for the Lady 'Cats (0-10), who go to Fayette today.
