Smith-Cotton 1, Marshall 0
SEDALIA -- With three starters out for most of the match, the Marshall girls' soccer team gave host Smith-Cotton headaches during a 1-0 non-conference loss Tuesday.
The Lady Owls only allowed 10 shots on goal, nine of which were ably handled by junior Kate McGlaughlin in her first varsity start. The only score in the contest came with eight minutes remaining in the first half, when junior Jessica Ferguson converted a crossing pass from sophomore Jenny Herrick to put the Lady Tigers (1-4) on top.
"The defense played wonderfully," declared MHS head coach Derek Lark. "We made a steps forward we can build on."
Sophomore Nicki Erickson unloaded four shots for Marshall (1-2). The Lady Owls' scheduled Thursday home opener against NCMC foe Fulton has been postponed until May 10. Their next contest will be Monday at Camdenton.
