Club news: GFWC Coterie Club meeting Sept. 25

The G.F.W.C. Coterie Club met Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the 9-1-1 meeting room. Jo Eichelberger and LaJune Southard were co-hostesses. Verna Sue Gibson, president, opened the meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Jo Eichelberger introduced the guest speaker, Larry Arrowood. He shared dreams and plans for Jim the Wonder Dog Museum and Marshall Welcome Center. Plans are to include a retail business with items such as antiques and crafts, a parking lot and connecting with Arrow Rock events...

Lori Godsey, chair of the Chamber of Commerce Business and Promotions Committee, spoke at the Saline County Commission meeting Tuesday, Oct. 9, to request the use of the courthouse grounds for the community Christmas. "Star Spangled Christmas" is the theme for this year's event on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. -

Stallings presents use tax information to Sweet Springs Alderman, pipeline staging area needed

Saline County Commissioner Tom Stallings spoke at the Sweet Springs Alderman meeting Tuesday, Oct. 9, about the out of state use tax. Stallings explained that the use tax is not a "new" tax, but that it is replacing a tax deemed unconstitutional in Jefferson City. Seven other counties have it on their ballot this fall.

The question is raised, why was one candidate for Congress invited to participate in the ceremony and his opponent not invited? If candidate Emanuel Cleaver was asked to participate, fairness dictates that his opponent, Jacob Turk, should have been asked also...

Candidates cut a ribbon to mark the opening of the Saline County Republican Party campaign headquarters at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Morgan Street in Marshall Tuesday, Oct. 9. Sweet Springs Aldermen raise water rates to deal with heavy water loss
