An 8,000-square-foot expansion of Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall got its official start Tuesday with groundbreaking ceremonies. When completed in 2002, the expansion will enhance the hospital's outpatient and emergency departments. A total of 116,553 deer were brought to wildlife check stations in the state of Missouri during the opening weekend of the 2001 firearms deer season Nov. 10 and 11, an increase of 5,551 over last year. Unfortunately, two people also went to an emergency room for treatment from firearm incidents related to deer hunting. One, which occurred in Cooper County was self-inflected, but that is all of the information available at this time...

Earlier this week, the Marshall City Council discussed the rising costs of solid waste disposal. Gasoline costs are up, the cost of over-the-road drivers to drive the trucks to the nearest landfill at Sedalia is up, tipping fees are up and the fund for this essential service was in the red about $20,000 for the recently completed fiscal year - with the forecast for a $65,000 deficit the next fiscal year...

Sweet Springs resident upset about location of water tower on lot

Construction of the new water tower being built in Sweet Springs is progressing, but at least one resident isn't happy about the new addition. During the Monday meeting of the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen, the board voted to approve the payment of approximately $31,000 for work done to date and to request reimbursement for the payment from the Department of Natural Resources, which is funding the construction through a grant program...
