Marshall hosted the first state 4-H Western Heritage Shooting Competition Sunday, Sept. 11, at the shooting range on North U.S. Highway 65. Eighteen competitors from six counties participated in the event, which is designed not only to test shooting skills in a timed competition using period firearms but to help participants learn more about life in the latter half of the 19th century. Participants must wear authentic period clothing and take a test to demonstrate knowledge of the Old West.
