Marshall Buildings Come Crumbling Down
Wednesday, February 20, 2008

ConAgra demolished four buildings within two city blocks, including Marshall Lumber Company, Thompson's Service Station and the building that adjoins it and Burkhart Electric. ConAgra purchased the property to allow Marshall's facility to expand if necessary since the building was essentially land locked. ConAgra officials said the reason of demolition was the deteriorating properties. The demolition by Brown Construction of Gilliam began first part of February 2008.

From the corner of English Avenue and Court Street, Burkhart Electric's building seems desolate as it has not been occupied for several years. It was the first building that the walls came crumbling down. (Rachel Harper/Democrat-News)

This is a view most employees at ConAgra were used to seeing as they traveled to work down North Street. Now, its just an empty piece of ground. (Rachel Harper/Democrat-News)

The little building (left) that was attached to Thompsons Service Station had many different lives, once it was known as The Sippin Inn, but has been vacated for several years. (Rachel Harper/Democrat-News)

This row of buildings that used to run down the south side of North Street is no longer standing as ConAgra had them demolished because safety was becoming an issue. (Rachel Harper/Democrat-News)
