Questions ...
(with a nod to the coming holiday)
The clock is striking midnight ...
the world has gone to bed.
And as I sit alone again ...
some thoughts run through my head.
What if Jesus came tonight,
to call us all away?
I wonder who he'd take along ...
I wonder who would stay?
What if the morning never came
'til we crossed to the other side?
What if the next thing that we saw
were those gates opening wide?
And I wonder what would happen
if he called and no one came?
Would he feel forsaken?
Or would he take the blame?
He took the blame before, you know,
while walking up that hill.
And every step along the way
was step against his will.
When the nails were driven
and he hung upon that tree,
he cried aloud "My father ...
why have you forsaken me?"
So remember when you're all alone,
someone really cares.
Or why would he put
his son on the cross?
He could have put you there.
