Valley sweeps at Pearl River
POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams continued their spring competition seasons at the Pearl River Community College Rodeo in Poplarville, over the weekend. Both teams captured first, with three individuals winning their respective event averages.
Two Viking cowboys claimed first in their respective event averages to lead the men's team. Junior Nick Pelke of Mondovi, Wis., won the bareback riding average with a 153 to collect 155 total points, and senior Roy Lee of Benton, Ark., won the calf roping average with an 18.8.
The Lady Vikings were led by senior Fallon Dyer of Ottawa, Kan., who placed first in the goat tying average, with a 13.1. Dyer finished second in the first go-round with a 6.2, and earned 140 points.
The MVC men rodeo team placed first in the standings, with 980 total points. Second place was Tennessee-Martin with 385 points. The Lady Vikings also won the team title, earning 310 points. Second place was Arkansas-Monticello with 290 points.
Valley is competing this weekend at the Arkansas-Monticello Rodeo.
