Edith S. Cordes
Edith S. Cordes, 96, of Marshall, Mo., died Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Legendary Nursing and Rehab in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall with the Rev. Dan Festa officiating. There will be no visitation. Born May 20, 1924, in Sweet Springs, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Alvin M. Alpers and Ruth Butemeyer Alpers. Edith was raised in the Sweet Springs area where she was a 1942 graduate of Sweet Springs High School. On May 18, 1944, she married Harvey L. Cordes, who preceded her in death on May 18, 1995. Edith worked for a short time in Kansas City as an accountant with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, but spent the majority of her life in Marshall where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include cousins, a niece, and several nephews as well as their families, and Scott Reiswig of Marshall, who helped care for Edith for many years and she thought of as a son.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gene Cordes; and one brother, Vernon “Guy” Alpers.
