MMB to feature Dixieland Jazz this Thursday
This Thursday evening the sounds of Dixieland music will echo through the Marshall square as the Marshall Municipal Band will present another concert. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m.
“During the month of June we have been presenting concerts by smaller groups,” says director Kevin Lines. “This week we will feature a style of music that originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, and that would be none other than Dixieland Jazz. While there were many leaders in its development, the true champion of early Dixieland music was the legendary Louis Armstrong.”
The MMB Dixieland Jazz Band will perform some of the best-known titles from this uniquely American style of music, including “Ain’t Misbehaving’,” “Down By The Riverside,” “St. James Infirmary” and “Basin Street Blues,” just to name a few.
While this will be the last of the small group performances by members of the Marshall Municipal Band, the full MMB Concert Band will return to the east lawn of the Saline County Courthouse next Thursday evening. The band will perform concerts through the month of July and into August.
“We have been excited to demonstrate the versatility of the musicians within our band, but we are looking forward to returning to our full group and are look forward to performances this summer by the Marshall Municipal Band,” concludes Lines.
