'Cats enjoy CAC road sweep
STURGEON -- The Slater boys' basketball team handed one of its several challengers for the CAC title its first league loss Thursday with a 58-54 decision at Sturgeon.
Senior Chandler Zdybel buried five three-pointers to pace the Wildcats to a 32-15 halftime lead. The Bulldogs (9-5, 3-1 CAC) made a furious fourth-quarter charge -- hitting seven bombs, three by junior Logan Flaspohler on his way to a team-high 20 points -- but the Purple held on.
Zdybel finished with 22 points and senior Aden Campbell added 17 for Slater (12-1, 3-0), which returns home Tuesday to face Glasgow.
The Lady 'Cats, who had won three of the previous four games, struggled in the first half against Sturgeon (1-12, 0-4), but went on a 17-2 third-quarter tear en route to a 53-27 victory.
Seniors Emilee Grimes and Abby Uhlich each scored 17 points for Slater (5-7, 1-2), which got 12 points and nine rebounds from senior Madisyn Beeler. Grimes also dished out nine assists.
