Marshall BOE talks candidacy filing schedule, replacements for track and turf
The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education held session Monday evening, Nov. 25. After the board members accepted the agenda and approved $926,264.80 for the November bills, they went on to discuss track and turfing replacement.
According to the meeting minutes, the board talked about replacing track and turfing both at Marshall High School and Bueker Middle School. Superintendent Carol Maher reported she had received information from ATG in regard to this issue, then presented the following information on three different options:
Option 1 — MHS soccer and football; BMS turf/track — approximately $3.7 million
Option 2 — MHS soccer and football turf/track — approximately $2.3 million
Option 3 — MHS turf and track; multiple use field — approximately $1.3 million
If the board would like to submit one of the following issues for the April 2020 ballot, the information would need to be submitted by Monday, Jan. 28. A motion was may by Board Treasurer Ed Harper, then seconded by board member Tim Schulte, to explore Option 3.
Additionally, Harper moved to amend his motion to consider Option 1 and gather input from the community, as well as district employees. This decision was unanimously approved by the board.
In other news, the board set the candidate filing times and dates for the April 7, 2020, board election to begin Tuesday, Dec. 17, at approximately 8 a.m., and to conclude at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020. The meeting minutes stated there are three three-year terms available which are currently held by board members Kathy Green, Brad Guthrey and Schulte. The Dec. 17 meeting will be held at noon.
