Stephen J. Rieth, 70, of Marshall, died Friday, November 15, 2019, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall, with Fr. Tom Alber officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Saline Animal League in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born Oct. 1, 1949, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Edward H. Rieth and Margaret M. O’Rourke Rieth. He was a 1967 graduate of Mercy High School and attended SMSU in Springfield, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On Oct. 1, 1976, he married Joyce A. Muenks, who survives of the home. He worked in highway construction and later owned and operated Marshall Paving Company, retiring in 2011. In retirement, he drove for OATS and worked part time for the city of Marshall. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 876 in Marshall. He was part of a very special group of racing fans, The Loose Lugnuts. He enjoyed outdoor cooking, fishing, traveling and spending time with the family, especially his granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, he is survived by one daughter, Tenecia Wade (Brennan) of Marshall; one son, Anthony “Tony” Rieth of Marshall; four granddaughters, Kayla Clause, Kelcie Clause, Maddix Clause and Mallory Rieth; four brothers, William Rieth (Connie) of Marshall, Lawrence Rieth of Springfield, Ill., John Rieth of Dearborn, Mich., and Paul Rieth (Eleanor) of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Patricia Gladbach (Denis) of Jefferson City, Kathleen Rieth (Bob Spielberger) of Indio, Calif., and Mary Jo Rieth (Ron Lawson) of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Honora Rieth, Mary Beth Rieth and Shirley Muenks Zinn; brother-in-law, Larry Muenks; nephew, Marc Rieth; and niece Shelley Zinn Offield.
