Friday, October 11, 2019

ALMA - The one foe that prevented the Santa Fe volleyball team from defending its I-70 Conference regular season championship last year was St. Paul.

That hurdle was cleared Tuesday by the Lady Chiefs with a 25-22, 25-16 home victory over the Lady Saints (7-7-1, 0-2 I-70). The first game was tight, with Santa Fe breaking a 19-19 deadlock with three straight points and winning on the second game-point attempt. The Lady Chiefs had a five-point lead after the first rotation of the second set and maintained it the rest of the way.

Sophomore Bella Limback led the way for Santa Fe with 10 kills and seven digs, with senior Carrigan Smith knocking down nine shots and pulling up five. Senior Madalyn Schuette contributed 12 digs and a pair of aces while junior Kara Hollingsworth provided 13 assists.

The Lady Chiefs (20-1-2, 4-0) seek their seventh straight I-70 Conference Tournament title Saturday during the meet at Sweet Springs.
