Friday, October 4, 2019
Law enforcement had the 1100 block of South Olson Avenue blocked off after a shooting took place Thursday morning, Oct. 3. The residence was located between College and Rea streets — a block northwest of Missouri Valley College. At approximately 11:18 a.m., the college went on lockdown, and emergency sirens blared, alerting students and area residents to get to a secure location. The college lockdown was lifted at 11:40 a.m. Marshall Public Schools were also placed on lockdown during the incident. Neighbors near the Olson Avenue residence were standing outside and said they did not witness the incident. However, one neighbor believed he saw the subject or subjects flee in a red pick-up truck. Missouri State Highway Patrol officers were currently searching for two black male subjects, unknown age, and an unknown make and model of the vehicle. At approximately 12:14 p.m., emergency sirens sounded again, this time in connection with an alleged shooting on the 400 block of West Vest Street. The Marshall School District went back into secure mode for the safety of students and staff members. MVC also went back on lockdown at the request of the Marshall Police Department, according college officials. That lockdown was lifted at 12:30 p.m. It has not been confirmed if the two incidents are related. The Marshall Democrat-News will provide more information when it becomes available.
