'Hounds look for 2-0 start in I-70
Sweet Springs vs. Concordia Orioles (0-2, 0-0)
.
Head Coach:
J.K. Basye (4th yr.)
Conference: I-70
District: Class 1, District 4
2018 Record: 2-8, 2-4 (t-5th)
Players to watch:
Offense - 3 Colby Stein, Sr., RB
Defense - 21 Troy Brandt, Jr., LB
Last Meeting: 2018
'Hounds 36, at Concordia 12
Last Playoffs: 2013 District 4
at Orioles 26, Cole Camp 19 (semi)
at Crest Ridge 32, Orioles 6 (final)
.
Friday at Sweet Springs, 7
.
Quick Take: It's tough to rebuild with the stiff non-conference schedule with which the Orioles opened the season, especially last week's game against top-ranked Lincoln. The Greyhounds aren't on that level, although would like to be, but a Homecoming contest versus a backyard rival should bring out their best.
.
Santa Fe vs. Lone Jack Mules (0-2, 0-1)
.
Head Coach:
Harrison Campbell (1st yr.)
Conference: I-70
District: Class 2, District 7
2018 Record: 3-7, 2-4 (t-5th)
Players to watch:
Offense - 10 Caleb Jackson, Sr., RB
Defense - 64 Thomas Black, Sr., DE
Last Meeting: 2018
at Lone Jack 43, Chiefs 8
Last Playoffs: 2014 District 7
at Plattsburg 42, Mules 6 (semi)
.
Friday at Alma, 7
.
Quick Take: New Lone Jack coach Harrison Campbell began his tenure with a pair of tough opponents, including defending I-70 Conference champion Wellington-Napoleon. The Mules lost 31-13, but that was close enough to give them home against a Santa Fe club which has also gotten off to a slow start against quality foes. This is the chance both clubs see as a chance to get well.
.
Slater at Missouri Military Colonels (1-1)
.
Head Coach:
Mitchell Jenkins (4th yr.)
Conference: Independent
District: Class 2, District 6
2018 Record: 0-10
Players to watch:
Offense - 16 Wrayvauze Givens, Sr., SB
Defense - 80 Cameron Schafer, Jr., DT
Last Meeting: 2018
at 'Cats 44, MMA 16
Last Playoffs: none
.
Friday at Mexico, 7
.
Quick Take: The Colonels opened the season by beating a charter school, which puts them a win ahead of a year ago. The 'Cats' main challenge will be dealing with MMA's unusual schemes: a Wing-T offense and 6-1 defense, designed to run the ball and stop the run.
