Dorothy A. Cox
Dorothy A. Cox, 84, of Marshall, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at Legendary Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshall.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with the Rev. Wayne Doolin officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Marshall FFA Chapter, or the Marshall Owls Girls/Boys tennis team. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born Feb. 6, 1935, in Saline County, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Archie Dean Murdock and Susie Richardson Murdock Hanes. She lived in Marshall most of her life, was a 1952 graduate of Marshall High School, and a graduate of Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg. On Nov. 23, 1954, she married William R. “Bill” Cox, who preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2015. She was an accountant, retiring from ConAgra after 40 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall.
Dorothy had a love for sports, whether that included watching her children and grandchildren or following her favorite professional teams, the Kansas City Chiefs, San Antonio Spurs, and countless tennis professionals. Family came first for Dorothy. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
Survivors include two children, Mike Cox (Kathy) and Karen Mullins of Marshall; five grandchildren, Jeremy Mullins (Amanda), Brandon Mullins, Ryan Mullins, ReBekka Cox and Matthew Cox; two brothers, Kenneth D. Murdock (Phyllis) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Bill Hanes (Lori) of Noel, Mo.; and several nieces and their families.
In addition to her father, mother and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Danny Mullins; stepfather, Louis Hanes; and stepsister, Elizabeth Sims.
