Club News: Optimist Club of Marshall meets June 8
The Optimist Club of Marshall met Saturday, June 8, at Bloomfield’s Family Restaurant. Vice President Amy Carney led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Charlie Reid gave the invocation. Freddy Pleis, of South Carolina, was the guest for the day.
Jim Johnson reported the club had served hotdogs for the Marshall Public Library summer reading program. Lt. Gov. John Bargfrede announced the Sedalia After Hours club, sponsored by the Optimist Club of Marshall, would have its charter banquet on June 11. He also reported the club had received a grant from Optimist International for its corn hole tournament this fall. It was also stated that the club would be serving food at the Walmart parking lot on June 22. Carney informed the club they would be assisting in distributing back-to-school packs at the start of the school year.
The morning program was presented by Kenny Clause. He gave a program on Campers On Mission. This is a Baptist group that helps repair and maintain kids’ camps around the state.
The meeting closed by reciting The Optimist Creed, led by Pat Kennedy.
