Sandwith is guest of honor at D-Day ceremony in Lafayette County

Jack Sandwith (left), a D-Day survivor who landed on Omaha Beach and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, and U.S. Navy veteran Charlie Guthrie, both of Slater, attended a D-Day service and wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the Lafayette County Courthouse. The event was sponsored by the Lafayette-Lexington chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sandwith was the guest of honor. Also attending the event were Joe and Candee Aull. Thursday, June 6, marked the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings during World War II. More than 160,000 Allied troops landed along the French coastline, and more than 9,000 were killed or wounded, according to www.army.mil.
