Kiwanis Club holds April 23 meeting
The Marshall Kiwanis Club held its regular meeting at noon Tuesday, April 23, at Community Bank on the Marshall square.
Al Sturhahn offered the invocation, and Club Treasurer Marty Smith led the Pledge of Allegiance and called the meeting to order, with 21 members and three guests in attendance.
Gabe Ramsey introduced his guest, John Fletcher, and the club welcomed former member and past president Norvelle Brown as a visitor.
Club Secretary Ken Bryant introduced his guest Walter Kieth. Kieth gave a very informative program covering his 70 years as a pilot. He starting flying planes when he was in high school and eventually spent a career as a commercial pilot for TWA. His vast experiences while flying and also training pilots yielded many stories. While flying, he encountered numerous “close-calls,” but he managed to escape the ultimate fate with outstanding skill and knowledge and, perhaps, a bit of luck. He once had former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, as passengers.
After a lengthy Q&A, John Carton won the $12 pot and the meeting was adjourned.
The next Kiwanis meeting will be June 30.
