Vernon W. Vaught, 88, of Elkton, and formerly of Saline County, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at the Missouri Veteranís Home in Warrensburg.

At Vernonís request, cremation will take place and a private family service will be held. Inurnment will be in Ridge Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Parkinsonís Foundation in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.†An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born Oct. 21, 1930, in Slater, he was the son of the late Clifford Thomas Vaught and Lois Leah Johnson Vaught.†Vernon was raised in Saline County and a 1948 graduate of Marshall High School.†Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged upon his retirement in 1972, having attained the rank of sergeant first class.†After retirement, Vernon lived in Hickory County for many years where he owned and operated ABC Antique Shop.†He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 2646 in Marshall.

Survivors include four children, Darwin Vaught of Marshall, Renate Duffy (Bob) of Lawson, Robin Vaught (Carolyn) of Liberty, and Eric Vaught (Jessica) of Brighton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, C.J. Vaught; and four sisters, Vivian Garrison, Wanda Kinkade, Cassie Clause and Norma Shafer.
